Catherine McLean, CPA, CGA, Partner

Catherine received her CGA designation in 1987. Other than three years at Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), she has spent her career in public practice. Her first (accounting) love is taxes – personal tax, corporate tax and estate tax. Catherine also enjoys working with non-profit organizations.

Frédéric Lizotte, CPA, CGA, Partner

Fred joined the firm in the summer of 1999 as a CGA student and received his designation in 2002. Prior to 1999 he worked as a tax preparer and bookkeeper in the Cowichan Valley. Fred focuses on small businesses, incorporated and unincorporated, and non-profit organizations. His goals are to simplify the complex paperwork and minimize your taxes.

Paula Wheadon, B.Sc, CPA, CGA, Partner

Paula began working at the firm in 2001 while as a CGA student and received her designation in February of 2005. Paula has been a resident of Salt Spring since 1983 and having been self-employed for 20 years before deciding to enter the CGA program, she is comfortable handling all aspects of your personal and small business planning or tax needs.

Trina B. Lohr, BA, CPA, CGA, Partner

Trina has recently joined our firm and brings with her over 20 years of experience in accounting. She is a fourth generation Victorian who graduated from UVic with a degree in Economics and Sociology. She achieved her accounting designation in 2000. Trina's first (accounting) love is audit and review engagements for small to mid-sized non-profit organizations, including fund accounting. She takes pride in her ability to make relevant and meaningful suggestions to clients for improving their internal controls and operational efficiencies with consideration to associated costs and benefits. Trina also excels in personal and corporate tax.

Nina Pollock, CPA, CGA

Nina received her CGA designation in 2002. She joined the firm in the spring of 1998 as a CGA student. In addition to her wide knowledge of income tax, payroll and WCB, Nina can make sense of anyone’s set of books and paperwork. If you need help with an internal system problem or reconciliation, don’t hesitate to contact Nina.

Terry Will

Terry has been at the heart of the firm since 1995. Terry always has a warm greeting for the clients, be it on the phone or in person. If there is anything you are wondering about, don’t hesitate to bounce it off Terry - there is no such thing as a stupid question! Her knowledge of bookkeeping, payroll and the tax system has made her a very valued employee.

Casey Wheadon

Casey joined the team at MLW Accounting in spring of 2009. An avid outdoorsman and hiker and a life-long resident of Salt Spring Island, Casey is happy to be back on the island after 4 years studying journalism and business at Kwantlen Polytech University on the mainland. He is currently an accounting student, working to attain his CGA designation. Casey enjoys working behind the scenes to support the partners and enhance the service provided to our clients.

Wendy Soares

After 22 1/2 years on Pender Island, Wendy finally made it to Salt Spring! For most of her work life Wendy has been a receptionist / assistant, working in law, medicine and now accounting! Wendy has always enjoyed working with numbers and joined the firm Valentine’s Day 2011. She thoroughly enjoys her job and always has a smile and warm welcome for everyone.

Carol Gevers, CPA, CGA

Carol received her CGA designation in 2010 and joined the firm in the Spring of 2014. Carol has worked in many industries, including banking, property management, hospitality and construction, making her knowledge of corporate systems a great asset. From her many years volunteering for non-profits organizations, Carol is also a tremendous asset when working on these types of year ends and other charitable organizations.

Stephen Severn, BA

Stephen Joined MLW in the spring of 2016. Stephen was born and raised on Salt Spring Island and loves the island lifestyle as well as getting to know new and old residents. He previously spent four years obtaining his BA in Intercultural Studies at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford B.C. He then started pursuing the accounting profession, attending classes at the University of the Fraser Valley as well as completing courses online directly through the British Columbia CPA program. He is currently enrolled in the CPA PEP program en route to receiving his CPA designation. Stephen enjoys learning and is encouraged by being able to help others with financial advice.

Scott Taylor, BBA

Scott joined the firm in the fall of 2016 as a graduate from Camosun College where he earned a degree in accounting. Scott brings with him experience in both the hospitality industry and public sector. He is currently an accounting student working towards completing his CPA designation. In his spare time, he enjoys running and exploring Vancouver Island.

Jane Lizotte, BA

Jane has helped in the office for the past three tax seasons and came on as the secretary when Wendy retired in September 2016. Jane attended UVic and has a BA in Recreation Management. She is a third generation islander, born and raised, and moved back to the Island in 2002. Jane currently volunteers with Girl Guides of Canada and always enjoys working with people.
